John M. Kim is a U.S.-qualified attorney specializing in international dispute resolution (including international arbitration and litigation) and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). Recognized as a leading practitioner in both fields by major global legal directories such as Chambers Asia-Pacific and The Legal 500, he is regarded as one of Korea’s foremost experts in international arbitration. With over 20 years of experience, he has represented domestic and international corporations as well as sovereign entities in complex cross-border disputes, while also advising on numerous cross-border transactions.
Mr. Kim has acted as counsel in some of the most high-profile international arbitration cases in the Asia-Pacific region, including representing Lone Star Funds in its ICSID claim against the Republic of Korea, Elliott Associates in its UNCITRAL claim, and Lone Star Funds in an ICC arbitration against Hana Financial Group. In addition, he has advised multinational corporations and private equity funds on M&A transactions and general corporate matters, providing practical and strategic legal solutions for deals and investments in both Korean and international markets.
Mr. Kim is also actively involved in the international arbitration community, serving as a member of the Korean Committee of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), an accredited mediator of the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC), and a panel arbitrator of the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB) International. He previously served as legal counsel at AIG Investments Korea, and he continues to deliver trusted legal services to clients based on his extensive hands-on experience and strong global network.
