Jay Shin is a corporate and commercial lawyer licensed in British Columbia, Canada with over 25 years of experience representing Korean and international corporations in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, project financing, banking and real estate transactions, and energy and resource transactions. Jay Shin’s past experiences include leading the Korea practices of Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP and Borden Ladner Gervais, LLP, two of the largest Canadian law firms, and a partner with Yulchon LLC, being a leading international law firm based in Seoul, Korea. As the partner heading up the Vancouver practice of DLG Law Corporation, Jay is uniquely positioned to advise Korea’s startup and technology based businesses looking to broaden its international reach by taking advantage of Vancouver’s geographical and cultural closeness to Asia and Vancouver’s rapidly growing tech sector making Vancouver one of North America’s premier tech hubs. Also, as the partner of the first and only Korean law firm with presence in Canada, Mr. Shin is focused on providing seamless legal services to international clients with businesses in Canada and Korea. In addition to maintaining his practice, between 2014 and 2015, Jay was an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources at the Faculty of Engineering at Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea where he taught International Mining Transactions to mid to senior level managers of Korean State-owned enterprises and multinational corporations. Previously, Jay was an Adjunct Professor with the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia from 2011 to 2013 and an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of International Area Studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, Korea from 1999 to 2000 where he taught Public International Law, International Arbitration & Negotiations, and Business & Law.
